Patrick Herbert has joined the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad. Chargers Wire reported that Herbert, a tight end and the younger brother of QB Justin Herbert, was among the players added to the group.
The transaction gives Patrick Herbert an opportunity to continue his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams after his time in Jacksonville. The signing also brings added attention to a practice-squad move because of the Herbert family connection.
Patrick Herbert’s Path to Los Angeles
According to Chargers Wire, Herbert went undrafted out of Oregon in 2025 and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The outlet reported that he was cut from Jacksonville’s active roster in August before joining the Jaguars’ practice squad.
Herbert later signed a reserve/future contract with Jacksonville in January 2026. After spending most of the offseason with the Jaguars, he is now headed to Los Angeles as part of the Chargers’ practice squad.
Herbert is one of a handful of players added to the Chargers’ practice squad. His arrival gives the club another tight end on the roster.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo described Herbert’s move to Los Angeles as the next step in his effort to establish himself in the NFL.
For now, the confirmed development is Herbert’s addition to the Chargers’ practice squad. His time with Los Angeles follows his stint with Jacksonville, giving him another opportunity to continue his professional career.
