A sneaker company is taking legal action against Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
This lawsuit specifically names noble 33 as a business partner and claims trademark infringement. According to court records obtained by ESPN, the dispute centers on the name of a steakhouse opened by the two NFL athletes, known as 1587 Prime.
The company behind the lawsuit, 1587 Sneakers, asserts that this restaurant infringes on their use of the identical number combination.
The lawsuit demands that the restaurant cease using the name 1587 Prime. Additionally, it seeks to halt the sale of any clothing bearing the restaurant’s name.
According to court filings, 1587 Sneakers began selling shoes on April 13, 2023, while Mahomes and Kelce launched 1587 Prime on September 17, 2025. The claim states that 1587 Sneakers holds prior rights to these numbers.
Timing is also a focal point of this case. 1587 Sneakers reportedly filed for the “1587” trademark in October 2025. In contrast, Mahomes and Kelce submitted an application for “1587 Prime” in December 2023.
These trademarks belong to distinct categories. The “1587” application is classified under clothing, while “1587 Prime” fits within the bar and restaurant sector. However, part of the lawsuit raises concerns about the steakhouse selling clothing as well.
The lawsuit highlights that “numerous consumers” have contacted the sneaker company under the impression that there is a connection between 1587 Sneakers and 1587 Prime.
“From the start, we have expressed a genuine belief that there is space for mutual understanding and respect,” said Adam King, co-founder of 1587 Sneakers, in a statement shared with ESPN. “This belief remains, and we continue to hope for an amicable resolution.”
As the lawsuit unfolds, Mahomes and Kelce are preparing for their return to the Chiefs in 2026. Mahomes is currently recovering from a significant knee injury that ended his season after 14 games.
Kelce is fully healthy and ready for training, having just signed a three-year contract extension, which secures his spot for a 14th season with the team.
