The Seattle Seahawks have made a significant move by securing their latest playmaker after triumphing over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60.
As reported by Spotrac, the NFC champions have inked wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to a three-year contract valued at $51 million. This deal comes with a generous $20 million signing bonus, $34.735 million guaranteed, and an impressive annual average salary of $17 million.
This decision ensures that Shaheed will be an integral part of the offense, running routes for quarterback Sam Darnold. In addition to his receiving duties, he brings valuable contributions to special teams, where he has previously excelled.
His presence also addresses the departure of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker, who has signed with the Chiefs during free agency.
Shaheed, who hails from Arizona, appeared in only nine games for the Seahawks last season. He began his NFL journey with the Saints, who provided him the initial opportunity in 2022. A midseason trade brought him to Seattle, exchanging fourth and fifth-round picks.
While Shaheed’s regular-season numbers might not impress at first glance—15 receptions for 188 yards and seven rushing attempts for 64 yards—his impact as a returner was undeniable.
The former Weber State standout returned 13 punts for 210 yards, showcasing his potential with a touchdown against the Rams in Week 16. In addition, he returned 14 kickoffs for a total of 418 yards, including a stunning 100-yard touchdown return against the Falcons.
His special teams prowess was on full display during the divisional round when the Seahawks faced the 49ers. Shaheed electrified the crowd by returning the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, helping Seattle secure a commanding 41-6 victory.
This exciting performance hinted at Shaheed’s potential impact for the Seahawks moving forward. With his future now secured, he looks to build on last season’s success.
“I’m thrilled to have a full offseason with this team and these coaches,” Shaheed expressed after finalizing his new contract, according to the team website.
“It’s fantastic that I can be with these guys for a longer time and continue to grow my role. Being part of this journey is genuinely special.”
