Stoops is no stranger to high-pressure situations, boasting over thirty years of coaching expertise, including a significant thirteen-year period at Kentucky. Notably, his teams clinched seven winning seasons along with four bowl victories.
Since assuming the head coaching role at Texas, Sarkisian has been proactive in adding seasoned coaches to his staff. Paul Chryst and Gary Patterson have both served as special assistants, with Patterson recently stepping into the defensive coordinator position at USC.
Stoops joins a Texas program gearing up for a possible return to the College Football Playoff in 2026. His extensive experience is sure to bolster the defense; however, questions linger regarding the offensive strategy. On a positive note, Heisman Trophy hopeful Arch Manning is back after gaining momentum at the end of the 2025 season.
