Leonard Fournette, renowned as “Playoff Lenny,” has a fresh milestone to commemorate. The Super Bowl-winning running back is now engaged to his longtime partner.
PEOPLE reported first on the enchanting details of Fournette’s proposal to Jaime Jones. On March 1, Fournette proposed at Davis Islands Beach in Tampa, Florida. Collaborating with Take My Hand Proposals, he arranged large white letters to spell out “Marry Me,” creating an unforgettable scene amidst a bed of roses as he kneeled to ask for her hand.
The former NFL star shared with PEOPLE that he contemplated the proposal for roughly six months. He selected a stunning wrap diamond engagement ring from Brilliant Earth, featuring a remarkable 4.04-carat diamond. With heartfelt sentiment, he knelt down to ask Jones to become his wife.
“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the lord,” Fournette expressed in his Instagram post revealing their engagement.
Fournette has kept his personal life largely private while making significant strides in the NFL, having been drafted as the fourth overall pick in 2017. He transitioned from elite college football at LSU to the professional arena with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
During his initial three NFL seasons (2017-2019) in Jacksonville, Fournette displayed impressive performance, rushing for over 1,000 yards in two seasons and scoring 17 touchdowns. Unfortunately, 2018 was marred by a persistent hamstring injury that limited him to just eight games.
After the 2019 season, the Jaguars opted not to pick up Fournette’s fifth-year option, leading to his release from the team. Subsequently, he signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers, taking on the role of backup to Ronald Jones II.
While he rushed for only 367 yards and six touchdowns during the regular season, Fournette showcased his talent in the playoffs, creating the persona “Playoff Lenny” with key performances that included rushing for 300 yards and three touchdowns—an outstanding achievement that featured a decisive 89-yard run with one touchdown in the Super Bowl victory against the Chiefs.
The Louisiana native played three impactful seasons with the Buccaneers, amassing 1,847 yards, achieving 111 first downs, and scoring 17 touchdowns. He concluded his professional journey in 2023, taking the field in two games with the Buffalo Bills.
