Lewis, who was brought on board on February 10, had his bio promptly removed from the team’s website by the following Friday.
According to reporter Justin Spiro, a woman accused Lewis of rape and assault during his tenure as an assistant at Michigan from 2023 to 2024. The claims also include that Lewis sent graphic and threatening messages, with texts stating, “I’m going to f— you up” and “I’d f—ing kill you.”
The Ann Arbor police are currently investigating these allegations, per ESPN.
Initially, the Falcons indicated they were collecting information. That process didn’t take long.
This latest incident makes Lewis another former Michigan staff member facing legal challenges. Sherrone Moore, the former Wolverines head coach, is currently involved in his own legal struggles. Former coordinator Matt Weiss had also been charged in a separate high-profile case previously.
Lewis, who had a college career at Tennessee, transitioned into coaching after brief stints in the NFL, working at several college programs before joining the Falcons.
The situation is fluid, and the seriousness of the allegations cannot be understated. The investigation is active.
The Falcons made their decision promptly. Legal proceedings will now unfold from here.
